Chapter No. 6: Step Into Spring 2019
As it does every year, the weather is changing and our spirits are lifted. Here in New York City, the brisk air has warmed to a balmy point and we are all flocking to see the cherry blossom trees in peak bloom. Yes, it is spring and just like the year before, it’s time to pull out the florals, pastels, and pretty dresses. But that’s no excuse to stay in a rut. In Spring 2019, Alejandra Alonso Rojas introduced the perfect dress to fulfill spring expectations while exploring dramatic body lines and unique hand painted prints.
For show stopping spring style, the Edurne dress ticks all the boxes. A mid-length shirring dress, the length implies subtlety. However, the striking detailing of the bodice demands attention. The elevated elastic shirring flatters and emphasizes the waist and hips, while the sleeves and neckline provide drama. Beginning at the shoulders, the ¾ length sleeves are filled out with voluminous petal shapes, finished with elastic to allow impressive off-the-shoulder styling. The pleated bust and fitted shirring body are complimented with a climactic sweetheart neckline, solidifying our idea of a boundary pushing beautiful spring dress.
Edurne is available in two colors, a warm carnation pink and a cool carnation blue, both painted by hand. The carnation floral print features miniature carnation flowers all hand painted on a white background. Evoking a quintessential spring feeling of light and carefree florals, the hand painted carnation print also offers a unique view to the time, attention, and effort of hand painting fabric prints. Each miniature flower is unique, just like the dress as a whole.
With a risk-taking bodice, intricate detailing, dramatic features, and delicate hand painted floral prints, the Edurne dress is perfect for those who want to take spring by storm.
